Encouraging Local Filmmaking with Sugilanon sang Barangay 2024

Vice Mayor Ramon Torres headed the roster of Bago City officials who attended the awarding ceremony of Sugilanon sang Barangay 2024 at the Bago City College AVR last February 29. In his speech, the Vice Mayor said that he believes that everyone is an artist with the capacity to create something. And he is one to support local artists, like filmmaking.

Now in its fourth year, the Sugilanon sang Barangay 2024 competition featured six short films that were each created by four barangay filmmakers who formed six clusters. The films underscored the stories of the barangays as anchored on the theme “Humay, Kalamay” or rice and sugar–the two major crops of the city.

Winners

Cluster 5, composed of Barangays Sampinit, Balingasag, Busay, and Napoles emerged as champions, bringing home P15,000.

Meanwhile, Cluster 6, which was composed of Barangays Lag-asan, Poblacion, Pacol, and Bagroy won first runner-up and best in editing.

Cluster 6, which was composed of Barangays Lag-asan, Poblacion, Pacol, and Bagroy won first runner-up and best in editing and a total of P17,000 in cash prizes.

Barangays Abuanan, Atipuluan, Taloc, and Tabunan comprising Cluster 3 won second runner-up while Cluster 4 composed of Barangays Don Jorge Aaneta, Alianza, Caridad, and Malingin bagged the third runner-up award.

They received trophies and cash prizes.

Councilors Ma. Josefa Matti, Carlos Mondia and Ma. Femmy Alvarez-Martir, and SK Federation President Julianae Lavadia were also present at the awarding ceremonies, along with Senior Tourism Operations Officer Mae Ann Furtos. It was also attended by the students and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in the city.

This year’s National Arts Month theme is “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain.” The filmmaking competition was judged by filmmaker Benjie Torre, who was the chairman of the board, award-winning actor Milton Dionzon, and Bacolod blogger Sigrid.
