Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) announced a slight increase in electricity rates for July 2026. The average residential rate is now ₱14.1287 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), up by ₱0.2870/kWh from June’s ₱13.8417/kWh. This is not a random occurrence. There are factors beyond Negros Power, and the reasons are explained below.

July 2026 Electricity Rates Hike
The increase is mainly due to higher power supply costs in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where electricity prices rose because of two reasons:
- Increased demand
- The limited availability of several power plants
These conditions resulted in Yellow and Red Alerts being declared in the Luzon and Visayas grids, leading to higher generation costs.

To lessen the impact on consumers, Negros Power implemented a staggered recovery of WESM costs. Instead of passing on the full increase in a single billing period, the company will spread the remaining balance over the next six months. This approach limited the increase in the generation charge to only ₱0.20/kWh for July.
For July 2026, the average electricity rates are:
* Residential: ₱14.1287/kWh
* Low Voltage: ₱14.0494/kWh
* High Voltage: ₱13.1864/kWh
Compared with June, residential customers saw an increase of ₱0.2870/kWh, while low-voltage customers experienced a ₱0.3025/kWh increase and high-voltage customers a ₱0.3170/kWh increase.
Despite the higher prices in the wholesale market, Negros Power emphasized that the staggered recovery scheme was adopted to help cushion the impact on consumers and avoid a much larger increase in this month’s electricity bills.
Negros Power remains committed to providing reliable service while ensuring transparency by keeping consumers informed about the factors affecting monthly electricity rates. The company also encourages customers to continue practicing energy-efficient habits to help manage electricity consumption and reduce monthly bills.
