In the Philippines where power distribution is not stable, one of the necessities that should be in the distribution utility operations is the customer service desk. However, in this day and age of very hectic lifestyles, only a few consumers have the luxury of going to the service office to complain. That is why there are landlines and mobile hotlines so we can reach customer service representatives to report any troubles. But what if the lines are always busy with so many people trying to report something? The next best thing is to send a message, which is why the Negros Power Chat Support has now been set up and is available 24/7.

Note: Negros Power is still awaiting its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), so it has not yet implemented its 5-year rehabilitation plan for Bacolod City and Central Negros.

Again, it would be good for us to understand that the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC or Negros Power) is still the interim distribution utility for Bacolod City and Central Negros. Technically and officially, we are still under CENECO pending the CPCN (refer above).

To help the Negros Power chat support team respond quickly and accurately, you may follow this simple format when sending a messaging:

  • Name
  • Account Name
  • Account Number
  • Location (adding a notable landmark can help)
  • Issue or Reason for Messaging

Providing these details about your account upfront will assist the team in locating common problem areas. It ensures that the representative knows where to start looking for the cause. Moreover, accurate information also helps Negros Power gauge the extent of the issue more efficiently.

Reminder About Keeping it Cool

We feel angry with the frequent brownouts, both scheduled and unscheduled, for good reason. These power interruptions also disrupt our lives.

But CSRs are not the ones causing the brownouts nor are they the ones fixing the problem. They can only receive complaints and relay them to the proper channels. Cursing them or being sarcastic with them will not solve your problem anyway.

Let’s use the Negros Power Chat Support wisely. They put it there so that they can connect with consumers faster.

While they are still awaiting their CPCN, Negros Power has been moving above and beyond their operations. CENECO is dying as a distribution utility and it is only a matter of time before the old and poorly maintained infrastructure will give up. As we can remember, the Alijis substation in Bacolod City was the first to give up, affecting more than 40,000 registered consumers.

What I am hopeful for with the new DU is that I have seen how the company cares. We have talked to the prime movers at MORE Power (NEPC’s sister company) in Iloilo City and we have seen how they work. We have also studied their company’s core values as well as the logic of how they operate. They also can bring down electricity rates, as proven by their track record. See story below.

But improvements cannot happen overnight. Energy generation and electricity generation is a very complicated and dangerous process. Right now, we just have to trust the process. We have waited for so long already without improvements. Service was just worsening by the day. Now, we have hope. Let’s wait.
