Negros Power Thermal Scanning Prevents Major Breakdown

With the heightened and proactive steps in preparation for the coming Elections 2025, Negros Power detected a critical issue. Using their thermal scanner, linemen discovered that the 69 kV Group Operated Air Break Switch on the sub-transmission line connecting the NGCP substation to Negros Power’s Burgos and Mt. View substations was dangerously overheating. They were able to diffuse the problem before it escalated to a major power interruption.

How the Negros Power Thermal Scanning Works

Linemen use the thermal scanner to detect problems, especially in long lines. But it could also detect problems when used for preventive maintenance.

Negros Power thermal scanning revealed a temperature of 316 degrees, nearly 4.5 times the normal operating temperature of 70 degrees. This indicated an imminent risk of failure and a significant power outage.

To address this critical situation and ensure the safety of their linemen, Negros Power will be performing immediate hotspot corrections early tomorrow morning. This necessary work will require a temporary power interruption for consumers between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM.

“We understand that this temporary outage will cause inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize. We appeal for your patience and understanding as we work to prevent a much larger and more prolonged power disruption”, Negros Power said in a social media post. “We are committed to providing reliable power to our community, and this proactive maintenance is a testament to that commitment. We appreciate your cooperation.”
