In city centers, we already live in the digital age, where a simple connectivity problem can cause an uproar. Despite that, many families in remote areas of the province of Negros Occidental still live in darkness. For decades, electricity was a distant hope for families in the far-flung sitios of Central Negros. Nights were spent in darkness. Families ate while children studied with the help of a flickering candlelight or kerosene lamps, which posed many dangers. Meanwhile, simple tasks, like charging a mobile phone, meant long walks to neighboring barangays. When Negros Power took over the distribution utility, it vowed not only to rehabilitate the system but also to bring power to remote areas.

Sitio Electrification Program by Negros Power
But today, that chapter has finally closed for 1,671 households. Negros Power, the Razon-led Primelectric subsidiary, fulfills its commitment to bring light and progress to the most remote communities of Central Negros.
Through its Sitio Electrification Program, Negros Power has energized a total 17 underserved sitios since it started the program in December 2024. The company has invested nearly ₱26 million in new power lines, transformers, and household meters, turning what was once a dream into a life-changing reality for the residents.

“This is about more than just power lines and electric meters. It’s about dignity, safety, and giving every family the right to live in comfort and security,” said Roel Castro, President and CEO of Negros Power. “We are bridging the gap for communities long left behind.”

Lighting Up Lives: Stories from the Ground
While a 30-minute power interruption already causes an uproar on social media, a mere lightbulb already has an immense impact on underserved communities. The effect is immediate and profound–lots of hope for a bright future.
Take this case in Hacienda Embang Mesa, Barangay Bagtic, Silay City. For Judith Arsenal, a mother of three, it’s a change she once thought would never come.
“We lived in fear of fire from our gas lamps. My children strained their eyes to study at night,” Judith shared, emotion heavy in her voice. “Now, just switching on a light bulb makes a difference. It’s a small thing for others, but for us, it’s life-changing.”

Cecilia Yeban, another resident beneficiary, expressed how electricity has reshaped their daily lives. “We waited so long for this. Before, we had to walk far to charge a phone or buy ice,” she recalled. “Now, we feel safer, more connected. We’re no longer isolated from the world.”
Building an Inclusive Future for Central Negros
The sitio electrification program reached communities in Bacolod City, Talisay City, Silay City, Bago City, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto, uplifting families who have felt forgotten for years.
More than lighting homes, the initiative powers livelihoods, improves safety, and opens doors to modern necessities — from access to information to better healthcare services.

Granted a 25-year franchise in 2024, the company continues to prioritize consumer-focused programs seeking to improve the quality of life in Central Negros.
“We are not just distributing electricity — we’re distributing opportunity, hope, and progress,” Castro emphasized. “And we’re just getting started.”

A Brighter Tomorrow for Central Negros
As dusk falls over the newly electrified sitios, light bulbs’ soft glow fills homes that once knew only darkness. The hum of appliances, the flicker of televisions, and the gentle buzz of a charged phone are simple yet powerful symbols of change. Progress is within reach.
For these 1,671 families, the future is here, which looks so much brighter, safer, and filled with new possibilities.
