Even the weekend could not stop the linemen of the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC or Negros Power) from doing their jobs. To keep everything up and running while they work on rehabilitating and upgrading the distribution utility’s system, Negros Power also continues the line maintenance. Not only did they inherit an aging infrastructure, but the system is also facing a tremendous risk because of the ashfall brought about by Mt. Kanla-on eruption and its continuous spewing of ashes. This weekend, teams of linemen continued the maintenance of the Bacolod-Silay 69KV Sub Transmission Lines.

Every day, the Negros Power linemen perform death-defying acts to keep the power running in their area of coverage. These are some of the photos taken during the Bacolod-Silay 69KV Sub Transmission Lines maintenance this weekend.

Bacolod-Silay 69KV Sub Transmission Lines Maintenance

The Bacolod-Silay 69KV Sub Transmission Lines is one of the longest transmission lines in the DU. This connects several thousands of consumers to the power grid. If something happens, everyone connected to that line experiences power interruptions.

It had been quite a challenging task for the linemen because long spans of the transmission line go through hectares of sugarcane fields. They must trace for trouble and fix it meter by meter, using a thermal scanner or physical checkup.

While Negros Power continues to work on its 5-year Development Plan round the clock, it also continues to repair existing lines so that consumers can continue to enjoy the use of electricity. Many corroded pin insulators were replaced during this time. Preventive maintenance is necessary to keep the system running smoothly and to prevent frequent brownouts.
