Many times, finances can hinder someone from getting the proper medical treatment, much less if a surgical procedure is needed. Six months after the historic surgical mission conducted by Negros Power in partnership with the World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), patients continue to share powerful stories of healing and second chances. The Negros Power Surgical Mission, held last December 2024 at the Valladolid District Hospital, successfully served 142 patients who received free surgical procedures for various medical conditions.

142 People Served During the 1st Negros Power Surgical Mission

The Negros Power Surgical Mission was the first of its kind under the company’s community development program, ever since the company was granted its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN). Carried out in partnership with WSFP and with the support of local government units, the program brought together skilled surgeons, nurses, and volunteers who dedicated their time and expertise to serve communities that need it most.

For Joey Mission, who had suffered from an indirect inguinal hernia for years, the surgery brought back more than just comfort—it brought back dignity. “There were days I couldn’t even stand straight from the pain. I felt helpless, like I was just waiting to get worse. After the surgery, everything changed. I’m working again, supporting my family, and living without fear,” Joey shared with emotion.

Meanwhile, Melanie Vargas, diagnosed with a gall bladder polyp, described how the mission gave her a second lease on life. “The pain used to be unbearable, and surgery was something we could never afford. When I was chosen as one of the beneficiaries, it felt like a miracle. I can now move freely, eat normally, and most of all—I have peace of mind,” she said tearfully.

Service Beyond Power

“We are deeply moved by the stories of our patients. This mission was never just about surgery—it was about restoring lives and bringing hope,” said Maricel Pe, Assistant Vice President for Customer Care and Marketing at Negros Power. “We are excited to share that another surgical mission is being planned for this year. The official date and location will be announced soon.”

This initiative reflects Negros Power’s broader commitment to nation-building—not only through reliable electric service, but by becoming a true partner in community development, especially in health and wellness.
