Guide to 21st EIGASAI Film Festival Bacolod
Who wants FREE MOVIES? I do. And this weekend, we are in for a treat as the 21st Eigasai Japanese Film Festival is in Bacolod City!
The Eigasai Japanese Film Festival
The Japanese Film Festival (JFF), widely known as well as appreciated in the Philippines as Eigasai Japanese Film Festival, is once again happening. This movie event is presented and run by the Japan Foundation, Manila and held annually from July to August. The free movie screenings in the key cities in the Philippines is part of the celebration of the Philippine-Japan Friendship Month.
The Origins
Launched in 1997, the JFF has grown to become one of the largest and popular film festivals in the Philippines. It attracts over 25,000 audiences every year, as the festival showcases a vast variety of cinematic delights, ranging from drama, anime, mystery, to popular films.
Furthermore, Eigasai also brings guests from Japan for special talks and discussions around the country.
The year 2018 marks the 21st anniversary of Eigasai as an arts and cultural exchange program. With this, the organizers will showcase award-winning Japanese films at the SM Cinema Bacolod, from August 9-12, 2018. Yep! That’s four whole days of free movies!
Admission is Free
Admission to the all the movies screened for Eigasai is totally FREE. So that means, it is on a first-come, first-serve basis. A total of 15 participating films will be screened. Please go to the SM Cinema Bacolod much earlier than the screening time to secure your free movie tickets.

Such an interesting and thorough Blog post! I love film, and love to learn about opportunities to see new films in new places. Film shows us so much about the world!!! If I am there I wouldn’t miss the Eigasai Japanese Film Festival in Bacolod!
Oh yeah! I went home last month and I saw a line at Glorietta’s old cinema for the Eigasai Japanese Film Festival. It’s pretty cool that they let Filipinos watch these nice Japanese movies for free.
The Eigasai Japanese film festival seems to be a well known event. Interesting that the entry is free. Might have a look when I am in the vicinity next time.
Oh the Eigasai Japanese film festival is only for the weekend! It happens once a year and we are happy that they have also chosen Bacolod City as one of their sites. So it’s free Japanese movies for us for this three-day weekend! 😀
I wished I lived in the Philippines right now…I would love to go to the Eigasai Japanese film festival so much! I love that admission is free (totally want to see Let’s Go, Jets! From Small Town Girls to U.S. Champions right now after reading this post).
Never watched a Japanese film before. Looks very interesting. I love foreign films and try to watch some on Netflix. Films expose us to different cultures and opens up our world.
Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a Japanese film before. I’ve watched a lot of South Korean ones though (they were abundant on Amazon :)). This sounds like a really cool festival, especially for those really into movies. And best of all, it’s free!
The Eigasai Japanese Film Festival event sounds so wonderful! I love that this event bridges together and positively promotes Philippine-Japan friendships and relationships through socials, discussions, panels, and meetings.
