Repairing, maintaining, and upgrading power lines in Bacolod City and Central Negros is far from easy–even with the tools, capacity, and manpower that Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC or Negros Power) has. The process is not as easy as flicking a light switch. Unlike urban areas where roads provide easy access, many power posts from Silay to Bacolod are deep inside sugarcane haciendas, far from paved roads.
Linemen Woes: The Struggles of Reaching Remote Power Lines
Despite developments, Central Negros still boasts of endless hectares of sugarcane fields. In these remote locations, roads are often nonexistent, making vehicles unable to transport people and heavy equipment.
This means linemen must traverse uneven terrain on foot, carrying essential materials like insulators, cross arms, loops of wire, and even power posts. The weight of these materials, combined with the heat of the day and the long distances they have to travel on foot, turns every repair job into a test of endurance and determination.

Dedication to Get the Job Done
Despite these challenges, Negros Power linemen push through daily, ensuring that repairs are done and electricity reaches homes, farms, and businesses across Central Negros. Their hard work often goes unnoticed and people often attack them on social media without knowing what their jobs entail. But without their dedication, power interruptions would last much longer, affecting thousands of residents.
The difficult terrain of Central Negros highlights the immense effort required to maintain reliable electricity in rural areas. As power infrastructure continues to evolve, finding solutions to improve accessibility for linemen remains a crucial aspect of ensuring a stable and efficient power supply.
The 5-Year Development Plan
Negros Power has considered all these in coming up with the 5-year development plan to modernize the existing distribution utility. While work continues, it also asks the consumers to extend some grace while the linemen pursue their work, especially in remote areas of the province.
