Negros Power is currently implementing Manual Load Dropping (MLD) in compliance with a directive issued by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) as the Visayas Grid experiences limited power generation within the Cebu-Negros-Panay sub-grids.

A Visayas-wide Distribution Problem
Earlier, NGCP placed several distribution utilities in the Visayas on alert for possible Manual Load Dropping from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM to maintain the integrity and stability of the power system. The grid operator has since directed the implementation of MLD in affected areas, including the franchise area of Negros Power.
Engr. Leomel Tambanillo, AVP for Planning and Business Operations and SEP of Negros Power, emphasized that the Manual Load Dropping is being implemented under NGCP’s directive to maintain stability of the grid, and it is not a decision made by distribution utilities.

“We would like to assure our consumers that the ongoing Manual Load Dropping is being directed by NGCP due to limited generation capacity in the Cebu-Negros-Panay sub-grids. This is not a measure initiated by Negros Power but a grid management action ordered by NGCP to protect the stability and integrity of the transmission system,” Tambanillo said.
NGCP Compliance
He explained that Negros Power, as a distribution utility, is required to comply with instructions issued by NGCP, which operates and manages the country’s transmission network.
“As a distribution utility, our responsibility is to comply with NGCP directives and implement the required load management measures. We understand the inconvenience this may cause our consumers, and we assure them that we are closely coordinating with NGCP while continuously providing updates on the situation,” he added.
NGCP said the Manual Load Dropping was necessitated by the limited available generation in the Cebu-Negros-Panay sub-grids. The measure is intended to prevent a larger and more widespread disturbance that could affect more consumers across the Visayas.

Mindful Electrical Consumption
Negros Power encourages consumers to practice prudent electricity use, particularly during peak demand hours, and to monitor official advisories for updates regarding the power situation.
The company remains committed to keeping the public informed and will continue to coordinate with NGCP as efforts are undertaken to stabilize the power system and restore normal operations as soon as conditions allow.
