Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) marked its second year of operations in Central Negros, highlighting the progress made in improving power distribution while reaffirming its long-term commitment to the communities it serves.
The Commitment to Serve
Primelectric Holdings Inc. President and CEO Roel Z. Castro said the company’s purpose goes beyond the distribution of electricity, emphasizing its commitment to creating a lasting impact in Negros.
Castro noted that in just two years, Negros Power has already reached nearly half of its five-year development plan, putting the company ahead of its initial targets.
He also highlighted improvements in the reliability of electricity service, with the system average frequency of outages reduced by about 70 percent and outage duration lowered by around 75 percent.
Despite these gains, Castro said the company remains focused on further improving the reliability of the power system.
He clarified that recent interruptions experienced by consumers are largely caused by insufficient generation supply in the grid rather than by Negros Power’s distribution system.
Castro pointed to recurring yellow and red alerts and Manual Load Dropping as consequences of generation shortages, particularly when major power plants are unavailable. He urged stakeholders in the region to work together in elevating the issue to the Regional Development Council and the national government.
Despite these challenges, Castro stressed that Negros Power remains committed to its long-term presence in Negros.
“Though we are in that situation, that shouldn’t stop us from moving forward because what’s happening can be temporary, can be short term, but we are here for the long term,” Castro said.

Service Beyond Power
Beyond its core business of electricity distribution, Castro also highlighted Negros Power’s commitment to environmental and heritage initiatives. These include mangrove planting, forest adoption, and the illumination of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol.

Castro described these initiatives as part of the company’s effort to establish a legacy that goes beyond its franchise and contribute to the continued development of Negros.
As Negros Power enters its third year, the company is positioning its second-year milestone not only as a measure of progress in power distribution but also as a renewed commitment to reliability, sustainability, and long-term partnership with the people of Central Negros.
