The SMX Convention Center last night was jampacked with students, friends, and family members who are rooting for their school’s representative in the much-awaited MassKara Queen 2016. This year’s pageant was organized by the Association of Colleges and Universities of Negros Occidental (ACUNO). Members of the ACUNO had one representative in the tilt.

Valerie Escamilla of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation ran away with the crown and the title of MassKara Queen 2016. She is the only who did not receive any special awards but in the end, her wit in the question and answer portion bagged her the coveted victory. Escamilla, 20 is a graduating student of JBLCF taking up Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management Major in Cruise Ship Services. She was also Model Student 2014, Ms. JBLCF-B 2015, Mutya ng NOPPSCEA 2015 4th runner-up, and Ms. Solidarity 2016 1st runner-up.

The other titlists are 1st Runner-up Ma. Angela Estioko of Riverside College, 2nd Runner-up Ancella Pastias of STI-WNU, 3rd Runner-up Erika Patayon of NOHS, and 4th Runner-up Pink Genolos of CHMSC-Talisay.

Our association the Negrense Bloggging Society, Inc. also awarded the Bloggers’ Choice Award to  Janine Pearl Casilao of VMA. Casilao was given a sash, a trophy, and P5,000 in cash.

Bloggers’ Choice Award went to Janine Pearl Casilao of VMA. She was awarded by Atty. Eli Gatanela (NBSI Legal Adviser), Sigrid Says, and NBSI President Eduardo Joven.

This is the first time that ACUNO has partnered with the Silver MassKara Festival Organization (SMFO), the organizer of the 37th MassKara Festival, for the staging of the MassKara Queen pageant. The admission to the event was free.

The event was attended by local officials spearheaded by Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia who said, “We do not only want to highlight the beauty but the brains of the ladies of Bacolod.”
