One of the companies that have established their name in the food business is Misyel’s Catering Services Bacolod. And this year, they are celebrating their 25 strong years in the industry.
The catering industry is an entirely different ball game than running a restaurant. You face problems like pricing, economy, supply, food safety in handling, if food supply is enough, logistics, pilferage, manpower, and the like.

In Bacolod City, one company that has withstood so many trials along the way is Misyel’s Catering Services. Having stayed 25 years in the business is no easy feat. And so they are celebrating this milestone with a big bang!
Misyel’s Catering Services Bacolod
The story of Misyel’s Catering Services started humbly. In 1994, they only served pork barbecue, mango and ube cakes, and lengua with mushroom sauce for orders to-go.
Eventually, they cooked according to client requests and now, they have more than a thousand platter stories to tell.
Born Out of Need
Michelle Uy-Gerona was a fresh graduate of marketing management from De La Salle University back then. Her brother died and her father got sick. Being the eldest in the family, she knew she had to help salvage their finances and keep their home afloat.
Team Misyel was born with the help of a driver, a waiter, an office staff, one cook, and one baker. Michelle is manager while her mom Rosita handled marketing.
Armed with only an assortment of chairs, plates, utensils, and glasses from her parents’ wedding gifts, Michelle started catering events. She would accept bookings for as many as 30 guests at one time.
Faith and Hard Work
Misyel’s used mainly their family heritage recipes. But their main secret ingredients were faith and hard work. No matter how hard things can be, they remained steadfast in their faith and prayer. They just laid low and kept working hard.
More Problems
Just when Misyel’s was slowly gaining momentum, Michelle’s father passed away in 1997. The loss of their family’s main breadwinner was a hard hit. Plus, they were left with loans for the hospital bills while her two brothers were still in school.
Nevertheless, Michelle and her mom persevered. With the last of their family savings, they started their small central kitchen. Their Dad’s old pickup truck became their delivery service and they started accepting catering orders for up to a hundred guests. Her two brothers also helped.
Misyel’s story continued and they kept rendering catering services to different big events. They have served weddings, baptisms, blessings, packed foods, and even burial catering.
Steady Rise
What started as “Misyel good foods” made in their small kitchen, their popularity rose by word of mouth. And 25 years later, Misyel’s Catering Services or Michelle’s catering in Bacolod can cater up to a maximum of 1000 pax, buffet setting.
Moreover, they can already handle simultaneous caterings for different venues in a single day. Their biggest catering event so far was 15,000 packed lunches and 10,000 packed snack.
Memorable Events
Among many events they have served, Michelle feels honored that they were able to handle catering services for different Philippine presidents. They have also served meals for famous artists and personalities as well as national conventions. Team Misyel’s has served events from the northernmost to the southernmost points of the province of Negros Occidental.
Misyel’s, at 25, has come a long, long way. It is still an unfinished story but is worth the telling and the re-telling.
Business With a Conscience
Continuous innovation and improvement of its menu and services have kept Team Misyel’s on top of their game. But perhaps their most valuable asset is their work force.
Ever since they started, I have heard stories about Michelle hiring people just to give them jobs. Her operational costs may increase but she tries to operate her business in such a way that she can provide livelihood even to those part-time moms.
