GrabCar Bacolod is back in business in Bacolod City since December 2020. They have stopped for a while because of the threat of Covid-19, but they are back with regulations and safety precautions in place. One of the safety features to highlight in the new GrabCar system is cashless payments, which is the only mode of payment accepted at present. Now the big question is, how do you add money into or top up your GrabPay Wallet for use with GrabCar, GrabFood, and other Grab services? Here are the ways.
Contactless Transactions with GrabCar
Covid-19 is still very real because the virus is also finding ways and means for its kind to survive. While we try to come up with health management solutions to combat the pandemic, the virus also wants to outwit us.
But we cannot just stop our lives. We can no longer just stay safely at home until the pandemic passes us by because it seems that it is happy to stay. Ugh. If we don’t find ways, it is ‘life’ that will pass us by.
March 15 is the first anniversary of the first lockdown declared here in Bacolod City. We cannot go on forever like this because we also need to earn, eat, and go about our responsibilities like pay utility bills, go for medical check-up, and stuff.
In order to make our lives easier, GrabCar is back to serve Bacolodnons. From 5am to 12mn every day, we can have a safe ride with Grab because they have installed safety protocols for both drivers and passengers and our families.
Remember: Wear your face mask and face shield at all times when inside the GrabCar.
Primarily, there is now the contactless transaction with the driver. We book a ride through the GrabCar app then we make cashless payments through the GrabPay Wallet. Even tipping the driver may already be done through the app. You can send it together with the rating for the driver.
Now let’s tackle many people’s question: What is a GrabPay Wallet and How to Top Up. Continue reading below.
What is the GrabPay Wallet
One Grab driver lamented to us that there are still people who do not know how the GrabPay Wallet works or how to load the GrabPay Wallet. That is why there are still a lot of their former passengers who are no longer using the service.
In this blog, I will attempt to explain what the GrabPay Wallet is and how to put money into it from a noob’s perspective.
The GrabPay Wallet is literally a virtual wallet that has a load balance or monetary value. The money in there has the same equivalent as physical money.
Much like your ATM, the 1.00 reflected in your GrabPay Wallet balance is the same as 1 peso.
The difference is, you don’t need to handle paper bills and coins, which get passed on from one person to another. This eliminates the contamination or the passing of viruses and germs from one person to the other as well.
That way, you don’t have to bring a UV sterilizing wand or UV sterilizer bag just to sanitize your cash.
Depending on how much you have, you can use the balance in your GrabPay Wallet in order to pay for Grab services like GrabCar, GrabFood, deliveries, pabili, etc.
How to Top Up Your GrabPay Wallet
So how do you put in money in your GrabPay Wallet in order to have a balance that you can spend? Here are the ways:
First, click on ‘GrabPay Wallet’ and you will be led to choices. The first one is ‘Cash In’. Click this and you will find the different ways in adding money into your wallet.
There are several ways and these are through:
E-wallets with Instapay
There are different e-wallet apps that connect with Instapay, such as GCash or Paymaya.
Online banking with Instapay
Among the banks with Instapay that you can use to top your wallet are BDO, BPI or BPI Family, Metrobank, Security Bank, and Unionbank.
Linked bank account
You can link a bank account to your Grab app and by far, this is the fastest way to top up your GrabPay Wallet. For now, I only see BPI and Unionbank in the list of banks you can link.
Credit cards
You can link your Visa or Mastercard credit card to the Grab app in order to may payments. From there, you can top up your wallet and even delay your payment because of the credit terms offered by the card companies.
In-Store, Like 7-Eleven or SM Business Centers
If all these contactless, cashless, digital options are still foreign for you, top up your GrabPay Wallet in-store. You can visit 7-Eleven, SM Business Centers, or Cebuana Lhuillier just so you can ride in the GrabCar. You pay them physical money then they will load your GrabPay Wallet. It just defeats the contactless system so I hope that you will eventually learn the virtual way.
Balance transfer
If all else fails, the easiest way would be to ask a friend or your family member to pasaload. Yep, they can send you some money in your Grab account so that you can book a ride with GrabCar.
*Note: Make sure to pay what you owe or else you can no longer make that request again. Haha
So I hope this guide to top up your GrabPay Wallet will help you use your GrabCar app. It will be a safer and more convenient ride for you in Bacolod City.
