The Garcia-Sanchez School of Dance in Bacolod City celebrates 48 lively years of performing. It is the one of the most respected and oldest Bacolod dance school today.
Oldest Bacolod Dance School
Two years more and they are going to be around for half a century! It is no wonder that each anniversary show is becoming more exciting as they get nearer to the Big 5-0.
The Garcia-Sanchez School of Dance recently staged their 48th anniversary show at the Maryville Hall of St. Scholastica’s Academy-Bacolod.
Individual Interpretations
The anniversary show is a display of the students’ outstanding dancing prowess. They take on different pieces that are especially choreographed to challenge their dance skills.
In this particular show, their years of hard work are given center stage with different solo variations. Members of the seniors class each had the chance to have the stage to themselves.
The students did their favorite classical variations to the delight of the audience. Their teachers beam with pride.
The special guests of the event are the proud and supportive parents. They understand their children’s interest in dance and have provided them with avenues to shine.
Group Presentations
There were several group numbers participated in by different classes. Ballet and jazz classes were featured.
Among the most challenging group interpretations were Arrythmia and New York, New York. These were the highlights of the anniversary show.
The senior ballerinas involved in the two numbers are:
- Bernice Garces
- Ayen Velez
- Sofia Montinola
- Therese Ureta
- Chloe Torrejon
- Andie Angeles
- Abby Evidente
Both numbers were performed by the same dancers from the seniors class.
The younger classes also performed in groups, like the juniors ballet class.
Arrythmia
Choreographed by Georgette Sanchez-Vargas, Arrythmia was performed last July at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It was for the 50th anniversary of Ballet Philippines.
The number depicts the emotions of the heart through dance. “The heart is a miraculous pump. The center of one’s body, the figurative core of one’s life, the foundation of one’s passionate soul. Everyday we walk. We talk, run, and rest.”
And we dance to the beat of life. We feel the beat of our heart change it’s speed, following the pace of our movements, whether it is slow or fast. The beating of the heart gives life to the human body. The heartbeat becomes the music, and the music gives life to dance.”
New York, New York
Meanwhile, New York, New York was choreographed by Gianne Sanchez-Sanson.
