Over 200 students from Foundation University showcased their creativity and tech-enabled innovations during the institution’s annual Digital Expo, which ran from March 5 to March 7, 2026. The event featured outputs in robotics, prototype systems, and more, and was held at Robinsons Place Dumaguete.

Notable student projects presented during the Expo included:
- Virtual reality (VR) gallery on different mangrove species from the Department of Fine Arts in collaboration with Siit Mangrove Ecopark
- An intelligent robotic hand developed by the College of Computer Science
- Demonstration of bamboo trusses from the Department of Architecture

Now in its 18th year, the annual Digital Expo provided a bigger avenue for Foundation University students to showcase their creativity and served as a launchpad for community-driven projects with real-world applications. A cultural hour and a choral competition, which closed the second and third day of the Expo, underscore the institution’s commitment to promoting the local culture.
“This year’s Digital Expo continues to illustrate Foundation University’s three pillars, namely Innovation, Culture, and Sustainability, supported by our students’ dedication to preserving our cultural heritage,” said Foundation University President Victor Vicente “Dean” Sinco. “It sets the stage for our pioneers to exhibit their creativity and innovation as we pursue the development of the next generation of tech professionals.”

Foundation University: Future-Proofing Her Students
The Foundation University has been a pioneer in integrating the latest learning technologies into the classroom. It is one of the first institutions in the country to successfully implement an iPad-based education program, first introduced 15 years ago. The university also utilizes a comprehensive learning management system, the Foundation University Expanded
Learning (FUEL), to streamline communications, assessments, content delivery, and collaboration between faculty members and students in an integrated digital environment.
“By embracing educational technology early on, Foundation University has created an innovative learning environment that enhances student engagement, strengthens digital skills, and prepares learners for a technology-driven world,” Sinco said.

Holistic and Sustainable Dumaguete Campus
A launchpad for new systems, the Digital Expo also became a launchpad for innovative student projects that were utilized for real-world applications. A hydroponics prototype previously presented by the university’s College of Agriculture was refined and has since been fully implemented on campus to grow lettuce. These university-grown lettuce, in turn, are being supplied to local restaurants and grocery stores.
The Foundation Preparatory Academy, meanwhile, has been presenting student-developed robots every year. The university’s Robotics Program, integrated into its Senior High School’s STEM strand and the enhancement classes for Grades 4 to 10, produced a competitive Robotics Team that excelled at the National Robotics Competition in Visayas.

These are among the student-led projects developed within Foundation University’s highly conducive learning environment. Apart from the campus’s lush greenery that creates an inspiring atmosphere for creativity, Foundation University also boasts strong connectivity and easy access to learning resources, enabling its students to
research, design, and develop their projects efficiently.

“This combination of inclusivity, supportive facilities, and a nurturing academic culture empowers students to showcase their talents and produce meaningful, innovative projects confidently. These examples show how the Digital Expo serves not only as a showcase of student creativity, but also as a launchpad for real-world applications,” Sinco said.
