What is IPL?
According to Wikipedia, “Intense pulsed light ( IPL) is a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including hair removal, photorejuvenation (e.g. the treatment of skin pigmentation, sun damage, and thread veins) as well as to alleviate dermatologic diseases such as acne.
“The technology uses a high-powered, hand-held, computer-controlled flashgun to deliver an intense, visible, broad-spectrum pulse of light, generally in the visible spectral range of 400 to 1200 nm. Various cutoff filters are commonly used to selectively filter out lower wavelengths, especially potentially damaging ultra violet light.
“The resulting light has a spectral range that targets specific structures and chromophores (e.g. melanin in hair, or oxyhemoglobin in blood vessels) that are heated to destruction and reabsorbed by the body. IPL shares some similarities with laser treatments, in that they both use light to heat and destroy their targets.
“But unlike lasers that use a single wavelength (colour) of light which typically matches only one chromophore, and hence only one condition, IPL uses a broad spectrum that when used with filters, allows it to be used against several conditions. This can be achieved when the IPL technician selects the appropriate filter that matches a specific chromophore.”

My IPL Hair Removal Experience at YSA Skin and Body Experts
I underwent a single IPL Hair Removal session at YSA Skin and Body Experts just so I could try it. Before you go there for a session, make sure that the hair on the area that you want treated has grown to about about 3mm. It wouldn’t be much appreciated nor the effects visibly seen if the the hair is still very short.
This is the thing about IPL Hair Removal, you have endure some days of unsightly hair growth before you can have it cleared.
In my case, I chose to submit my legs for treatment because my leg hair is gross. They can grow very thick as I shave them regularly (waxing is too tedious for me). So I thought my legs would be the perfect guinea pig for the IPL hair removal procedure.
IPL Hair Removal Procedure at YSA Skin and Body Experts
At YSA, you get to lie down on their comfortable treatment bed for the IPL hair removal procedure on my lower legs.
First my legs were cleaned so as to remove the lotion that I applied on them before I left the house. Then my legs were smothered with a cool gel to soothe the skin and make it lubricated. I was also made to wear dark glasses. Then the IPL hair removal procedure was done.

There were areas that I felt a sting stronger than the rest, maybe depending on how thick the skin is on the area, but it was tolerable. After the procedure, the therapist shaved the remaining hair lightly and then the lubrication was wiped off.
The hair took longer than normal to grow. I was told that with continued visits, the hair strands will become thinner and “lighter”. It will also take much longer to grow. And maybe, eventually, depending on your hair, they just might not come back anymore. The IPL hair removal was a short procedure, which I think only lasted for 30 minutes.

IPL hair removal looks interesting. I use an epilation system on my feet. What I don’t get is why did they need to shave your legs after the hair removal?
From what I saw, there were some stubborn hairs that weren’t removed but were already softened. So they shaved them away.

I actually need to give IPL hair removal procedure a try! I never have because I always assume that it’s a really lengthy process, but after reading this, I realise that it’s actually quite simple!
I have tried laser hair removal or IPL hair removal once on my armpits and I did find that the hair did grow back slower at first. I would love to get it done on my legs as the hair grows so darn quickly aha and its so annoying to shave all the time.
It sounds like a better alternative to shaving which I learned isn’t good for your skin at all. I think it’s really awesome and I like the fact that it takes longer for your hair to grow!
IPL hair removal is sometting I been wanting to try for a long time and it’s actually great I could read about the all process!
I have been told by my sister I need to look into this. I am not super keen on waxing so this might be a better alternative.
It was short if it just took 30 minutes to do. It’s great that it makes the hair grow back slower lighter and thinner.
Hmmm, I have never heard of this procedure before for hair removal. It looks like it is fairly easy and straightforward, and not too painful. How long can you go between visits and what is the cost?
It will really depend on your hair growth, but the minimum would at least be 3 weeks or until you are no longer comfortable. Cost is P1500 per session but YSA Skin and Body Experts usually has promos.
I could use the IPL on my legs too. Sounds like it’s a quick procedure. I’m in the US so the IPL treatments are so much more expensive here.

I agree that ladies tend to feel freaky with hair growing on unnecessary areas…haha! Anyway, the IPL hair removal procedure sounds worth it now that it ensures hair takes too long to grow, and with time, hair becomes thinner. But since I fear this, I’ll be grateful since my legs are just naturally smooth😊

I will have to show this to my ex. I know she tried doing things for hair removal and was trying to get it not to come back. But she was doing stuff in home. This looks like its a much better option.
I tried laser hair removal on my face before, and i wont do it again. The treatment is nice, but i find it impractical. Plus, i noticed that when im in a no-facial hair days, my face got easily irritated.
Now i learned to love my facial hair, even hairs in my arms and legs.
Oh, I never tried that. I think the facial skin is too sensitive. Sorry you had to experience that. 🙁
I never tried this IPL hair removal treatment before but it looks like a good one, it looks so easy and a fast treatment and I think its worth to give a try.
