St. John’s Institute (SJI) bagged the championship in both the Primary and Intermediate levels of the 1st Math-alino Ako Quiz Bee held by the Galileo Enrichment Learning Program-Bacolod last January 8, 2015 at the SM City Bacolod Events Center.
In the Primary Level, St. Scholastica’s Academy (SSA) and Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) ran away with the 1st and 2nd Runner-up places, while the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) and Bacolod Tay Tung High School secured the 1st and 2nd Runner-up places in the Intermediate Level, respectively.
The quiz bee was participated by several private schools from all over Bacolod City, namely, SJI, SSA, BTTHS, UNO-R, Jack and Jill School-Homesite, Lamblight Catholic School, St. Sebastian International School, and Eliakim Learning Center. The Primary Level was composed of contestants from Grades 1-3, while the Intermediate Level, Grades 4-6.
With the joint effort of Galileo Head Office-Manila led by CEO Ms. Ma. Rowena J. Matti, the quiz bee proved to be an avenue for students at a tender age to develop not only their skills, but most especially, their love for Mathematics. The event aims to show the young kids that Math isn’t scary or difficult, but is enjoyable for anyone to learn.
The following day, January 9, 2016, the Grand Opening of the Galileo Enrichment Learning Program was held at the Bright Kids Preschool. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was initiated by Ms. Shiela Saratan and Ms. Cindy Tan Roxas, and was followed by a parent orientation about the Galileo program, particularly Singapore Math.
