Sharing is caring, even among Telcos. That is caring for their subscribers, at least. With connectivity becoming a necessity for businesses, a shared telco infrastructure among telecom operators is key to better connectivity in high-rise property developments. The occupants benefit from improved voice and data quality and consistent coverage in all areas of the building. Read more.
About Shared Telco Infrastructure
The concept of having a common distributed antenna system (CDAS) via a third-party model was the main topic of Globe’s Strategic Property Business Development team’s third virtual session on commercial and master-planned estates. The event, “Owning the Digital tomorrow of the Estates” #AtinAngMundo, focused on enabling and planning the digital tomorrow of the estates to build a well-connected digital community.
CDAS is a solution that simplifies in-building coverage. Instead of having multiple antennas, cables, and rooms to cater to different telecom providers, a single antenna can propagate multiple telcos signals.
It addresses one of the biggest challenges of telcos in putting in-building systems – being capital intensive. By sharing infrastructure, telecom providers can cover more areas efficiently by using a standard design that provides fast, stable, and seamless connectivity throughout the property.
Christian Anthony Angeles, President of SMS Global Technologies, Inc., explained that as a neutral third party, they could help design, build, operate, and maintain the CDAS so that property developers only have a single point of contact. SMS Global is a leading system integrator in the Philippines and Globe’s partner.
Aside from efficient use of capital, the system is designed to be future-ready, supporting the latest network technologies like 4G LTE. For 4G, CDAS can deliver up to 100 Mbps consistently based on tests made by SMS Global. The company is working with telcos to equip two hotels with 5G with 400 to 800 Mbps speed.
Globe and Its Part
“Our goal is to provide consistent coverage inside the building using a single infrastructure so that Filipinos will remain connected at home in their condominium or their office. Together with the telcos, we will be able to deliver high-speed connectivity, which is now very important in our industry and our day-to-day lives. I would like to invite all the property developers to share the vision of Globe and our vision to build a digital Philippines, one building at a time,” Angeles said.
Globe assists property developers through its fiber technology and other broadband solutions. These are the new standards for building Intelligent estates and communities of the present and future. This also helps the country’s drive for #1stWorldInternetPH.
“The Internet has become the Filipino’s lifeline. That is why master planning your estates and early collaboration with Globe are key factors to continue serving the ever-changing digital needs of the common customers we serve. As the lifestyle of our customers continues to evolve, we believe this transformation should be integrated into how Globe and partners like you work together,” said Jenny Echevarria, Globe VP for Commercial Strategy and Operations and Marketing Services Hub.
Globe also updated the property developers on its initiatives to make the estates a digitally connected community through initiatives such as VoLTE and VoWiFi activations, GCash e-wallet service, GoWiFi secure public hotspot, Wireless Connect for business, and the new Globe Store format.
“I hope our sessions have given you the understanding of how critical proper master planning will lead us to own a brighter future for the estate. Similarly, in real life, when we think and plan ahead in reaching our lifelong dreams and aspirations, we see everything from a different and much broader perspective. We put value even on the tiniest things and see the ultimate potential in all the aspects of our development and how it will be beneficial not only to us but most especially to others,” said Issa Cabreira, Globe Chief Commercial Officer.
