Jed Alcala is a true-blue young Bacolodnon with a passion for photography. Now, he has his own studio/office at Rm. 210, 2nd Floor, Northpoint Bldg., B.S. Aquino Drive (fronting San Agustin), Bacolod City. He is well on his way into carving a name for himself as a Bacolod wedding photographer. 

While he may only be 23 years old, he has had many events covered tucked under his cap. Jed has covered many weddings, debuts, and other special events here and abroad professionally for three years now.

Who is Jed Alcala?

Jed became interested in photography back in 2011, when he was still in 3rd year high school. His parents bought a DSLR camera for their family’s use. He studied the use of it, did some experimental shots, and just used the internet for references.

To further hone his interest, he joined some camera enthusiast groups, where he was able to explore his creative side with some model/fun shoots and photo walks. During these times, his fondness for photography grew.

No Formal Training

Although Jed did not attend any formal photography school, he was able to experience the photography workshop of famed Filipino film director, Jay Abello. Eventually, he just continued to join professional photographers in their events just to gain experience. Everything else in between is self taught.

Armed with his first camera, a Nikon D90, Jed started accepting clients at age 17, covering small events like birthdays, baptisms, and maternity portraiture.

His first big break was in 2012–a wedding coverage. Remembering his first time, “I was a bit nervous that I even didn’t even know I need to be there at least 4-5 hours before the ceremony. Honestly, I didn’t know that I needed to take shots of all the details and pictorials. I charged P2,500 only for both photo and video, which was really big already for me that time.”
